Urth is a community of creators founded on the principles of sustainability and conscious design. Urth makes Photography Products and Accessories using low-impact materials, and planting trees in areas of severe deforestation with every item purchased, whilst empowering Artists through their online Art Store and Magazine.

The Urth One is a concept product only and was developed as part of a job application with Urth in 2021. This product is not part of the Urth product offering or for sale and is purely a representation of a past project.

• Minimising environmental impact by designing the product to utilise existing company packaging, reduced the tooling requirements necessary and achieved both production efficiencies and ecological responsibility.

• Material selection was grounded in a deep commitment to sustainability. Careful consideration of not only the materials themselves but also their sourcing, production processes, and overall life cycle.

  While initially considered, silicone was ultimately deemed incompatible with Urth’s core sustainability principles due to limited recycling infrastructure in Australia and globally. Cork became a natural substitute as a material with exceptional environmental qualities. Cork sequesters carbon dioxide with minimal production emissions and a rapid decomposition timeframe of 3-10 years. Additionally, material properties and form align seamlessly with Urth’s existing product aesthetic with the added benefit of providing a comforting tactile user experience.
