URTH: Urth is a community of creators founded on the principles of sustainability and conscious design. Urth makes Photography Products and Accessories using low-impact materials, and planting trees in areas of severe deforestation with every item purchased, whilst empowering Artists through their online Art Store and Magazine.

• Maintaining a compact product for travel, the use of existing packaging at Urth to remove the need for additional tooling reducing overall waste

• Materiality was critical in the success of the products, where and how the materials were sourced/produced, and the environmental impact made in the process. Silicone is a key material used in the existing reusable coffee cup market and was initially an obvious consideration for the Urth One. However, there are no official recycling depots in Australia, which is a common occurrence globally. Production and overall life span did not resonate with the company’s core environmental principles so cork was seen as a great alternative. Cork is a natural material (bark), that sequesters carbon, has extremely low emissions when sourced and produced, and has a short decomposition period of approx. 3-10 years.
